Bugs Cafe In Siem Reap
I never thought insects could look so delectable, but this place proved me wrong.
After a long drive from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, this past Sunday, I was in the mood for one a shower and two a little adventure . I remembered this exotic restaurant a friend recommended to me, called Bugs Cafe, so we decided that would be our adventure for the night. I will admit, I am not so adventurous when it comes to eating exotic foods, especially ones that I would normally kill! However, eating insects for the first time at a restaurant, rather than a local market, was a bit more comforting knowing there were less ways the experience could go wrong.
Khmer people, like many others in Asia, enjoy eating the insects many Americans would never consider digesting. Bugs Cafe, specializes in making bugs taste delicious. They bring great joy in having you “experience a gastronomical discovery of this typical Cambodian product, through the savoring of sophisticated and appealing tapas, cooked in a fusion of French and Khmer cuisine. Crickets, scorpions, grasshoppers, ants, bees, silkworms, spiders and more, combined with quality Khmer and western products and seasonings” will certainly have you asking for more.
The menu is split into appetizers, entrees, desserts and cocktails. You may have a hard time trying to figure out where to start, at least we did. Good thing the owner gives you a lovely introduction of the menu and offers you with a few recommendations to get you started. As suggested, we started with the small Discovery Plate, which included the following:
- 2 Wild Spring Rolls with Ants
- 1 Insect Skewer
- 1 Tarantula Donut or 1 Feta and Tarantula Samosa
- 1 Mediterranean Feuillets with Red Ants
- 1 Crickets and Silk Worm Wok
Of course, all of the items on the menu can be ordered without bugs. However, if you’re going to eat at this restaurant I suggest you avoid the urge to have the chef remove the bugs.
This restaurant has been approved by The Wanderess Adventure and I highly recommend you bookmark this place on your maps.me for your next visit to Siem Reap. You can check out the video below highlighting my experience at Bugs Cafe Insect Tapas and Cocktail Bar.
Lots of luv,

Bugs ?? Do they charge extra?
Lol, yes it’s more than going to the local market for sure. However, it’s still not that expensive, I think it was something like $14 for that entire plate. It was a nice little splurge. ?
